Two Up in Combined Clubs Inshore Race

John Vickory writes, ‘The MHYC race committee selected Course 3 in the ESE breeze at about 10 knots but variable in strength and direction. Starting in Athol Bay, Windsong 2 chose to start at the pin end for clear air but was looking to head across to the Eastern side to hopefully catch some pressure coming out of Rose Bay before rounding Shark Island. After a couple of tacks to keep clear of a bigger boat, we rounded in good shape and set the spinnaker for N2.

Sailing only 2 up because of an injured forehead hand, we were all arms getting the spinnaker and pole down and gybing at N2 but got away with it before heading back to Shark Island. The wind had shifted to the SE so we laid Shark Island in one and the next downwind to Point Piper had become a reach so no more spinnakers required. Over to Chowder was another beam reach followed by a work to East Channel and another beam reach into Rose Bay again.

Quite relaxed sailing in smooth water and good pressure made for a very pleasant day and almost ideal conditions for a short-handed sail. First over the line and a good result for us with the wind gods on our side.
