Kirstin Reblin, skipper of Andiamo! writes, 'The Sydney Harbour Women's Keelboat Series (SHWKS) got off to a thrilling start with its first race hosted by the Middle Harbour Yacht Club (MHYC). On a day blessed with beautiful summer weather, 21 boats, representing various sailing clubs including BSC, CYCA, MYC, MHYC, RANSA, and RSYS, took to the waters in a display of skill and camaraderie.

The race featured two divisions, offering participants the choice of either an all-female team or a female helm, along with the option to race with or without a spinnaker. The diversity of options allowed sailors to tailor their experience, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.

However, the day was not without its challenges. Shifting winds tested the mettle of the sailors, creating a tricky course with numerous corners and ample opportunities to hoist the kite.

Thank you to the MHYC for their impeccable organization, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable race day for all participants.

One noteworthy addition to this year's sailing rules is the introduction of a new abbreviation, "NSC," which stands for "did not sail the course." The race committee applied this abbreviation to boats that deviated from the designated course without the need for a formal hearing.

Reflecting on the day's events, I was lucky to have an amazing team of friends on board who love sailing and racing as much as I do!

As the SHWKS continues, the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (RSYS) is gearing up to host the 3rd race on Sunday, November 12th. We would love to see all Tuesday Twilighters join casually and relish the experience of racing in a mixed fleet that brings together sailors from different clubs. It promises to be another exciting chapter in the SHWKS, where camaraderie, competition, and a love for sailing unite on the stunning waters of Sydney Harbour.
