2023 Sailing Champions League Asia Pacific Champions!

The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron team claimed the Sailing Champions League Asia Pacific final after a dominant weekend on Pittwater. The racing was epic, with gusty conditions on Sunday and a close finish against the CYCA.

Zac West led his team of Annabelle Connery (main), Jameson Prescott (trim), Lauren Tandy (bow) and Max Henderson (tactics) to victory with 10 wins out of a possible 18 races.

He commented, “The regatta was absolutely amazing. I’d like to thank my crew for all of their hard work and pulling through the difficult parts of racing, with challenging weather on Sunday. Race one was very hectic and we were pretty much sailing single-handedly on the jib. Despite boat breakages, the crew powered through really nicely, so full credit to them for such an excellent performance.

Robbie Deussen got the better of us in the first race of the final series on Sunday with a cracking start, but we were able to recover in the second race with an equal performance. We were able to hold everyone out and then bear away at the last second to accelerate through the line, and it was simple sailing from there.

Thank you to host club Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club for having us. Thank you also to the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and Sail Racing for their support”.

The team now have the opportunity to compete in Travemünde, Germany, in the Open Final from 22 – 25 July. They have also qualified for the Youth Final in Kiel, Germany, from 1 – 3 September.
