Jan Scholten is the MD of Contender Sailcloth Pty Ltd., Australian importer of Contender Sailcloth, Blue Streak Battens, Selden masts and associated equipment and Rutgerson Marine hardware. On 25 October 2023, he will join us for a speaker event on ‘Making Sailing Easy’. 



He is an accomplished sailor and began sailing at the age of six in the Netherlands. Jan is a Laser Standard Master World Champion and made history by winning the first double handed Sydney Hobart in 2021.



He will use his extensive experience in shorthanded sailing to show us that what’s easy for racing and cruising - for example, hoisting and dropping spinnakers with limited crew. He will use working models of different rigs to illustrate his presentation including the pros and cons of various systems.
Sydney Harbour Yacht Rigger, Jason Neuhaus, will also join the conversation to bring knowledge on:
 

• Best practice to maintain standing and running rigging.
• How to prepare for long distance cruising.
• Typical up-grades to go short handed sailing and related costs.
• Record keeping for insurance claims.
• New products specific to rigging.
