Four top sailors are leaving tomorrow to compete at the St. Francis Yacht Club, San Francisco, USA.
Brooke Wilson and her team of Tiana Wittey, Gemma Burns and Emily Keg called ‘Amphitrite Racing’ will compete in the Women’s World Match Racing Tour (WWMRT) representing the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.
The Casa Vela Cup hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club will be the official opening event of the Women’s World Match Racing Tour 2023 season, taking place from the 24 – 28 April 2023. 10 skippers have been invited to compete at the event on San Francisco Bay in J/22 boats.
‘Amphitrite Racing’ was formed in 2022 and competed in the 2022 Australian Women’s Match Racing Championship where they placed third, as well as the New Zealand Women’s Match Racing Championship.
The WWMRT is the world’s only professional global sailing series for women, with the mission of expanding and strengthening global match racing opportunities for competitive women’s sailing. The team will be competing against the current world champions and numerous highly developed and experienced teams. On board they have a wide variety of experience stemming from Olympic dinghy classes as well as small keelboats.
The team is very proud to be representing the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and Australia and are eager to compete against the best of the best and give it their all.
