RSYS Training Courses

The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (RSYS) offers various training opportunities throughout the year which cater to the different needs of our members and now, also available to non-members. For those new to sailing, learn to sail courses are offered for children through the 'Tackers Program' and for teenagers and adults through the 'Keelboat Program'. The club also offers powerboating, seamanship and navigation courses from time to time, through chosen third party providers.

The RSYS is an accredited Australian Sailing (AS) 'Discover Sailing Centre'. We deliver the AS learn to sail and powerboat programs, through qualified AS Instructors. They adhere to standards that ensure safety and student satisfaction. Our programs are nationally recognized throughout Australia and are structured to provide a clear pathway for students to progress their sailing in whatever direction they choose. So whether you’re an experienced hand or learning the ropes, why not follow the links below and Discover Sailing!

Upcoming Australian Sailing Courses at the Squadron

We have a range of upcoming training courses at the Squadron, from Club Race Officer to Assistant Instructor. These courses give sailors and parents the opportunity to get more involved with the on-water action. You can gain skills to be able to run racing from the start boat, or volunteer as a safety boat driver.

The Start Powerboating course is the ideal introductory boating course offering both theory and onwater boat handling instruction. This 12 hour course is suitable for students and adults from 12 years with the emphasis on safety and boat training.

The Powerboat Handling course is an ideal follow up to the introductory Start Powerboating course and provides both theory and on-water boat handling instruction. This one day course is suitable for students and adults from 12 years who already have their Powerboat licence with the emphasis on safety and boat training.

The Safety Boat Operator Course allows parents to volunteer as a safety boat driver supporting the Clubs sailing activities, it is also needed for those who are looking to become a sailing coach.
