Elliott 7 Keelboats

 

The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron has a fleet of Elliott 7s keelboats designed by the world-renown designer Greg Elliot. The Elliott 7s is a one-design performance keelboat, specifically designed for youth development squads, keelboat training courses, and club racing. The boats are extremely versatile and have been set-up to for both symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers. 

Suiting a wide range of sailing abilities, the Squadron's Elliott 7s keelboats are an exciting, modern, dynamic, state of the art 7-meter keelboat. True to Elliott pedigree the Elliott 7 is a proven all-round performer. Ideal for use in class racing, match racing, open racing, yacht club programs, keelboat training, youth development. These boats are ideal for all members to take them for a sail either on a twilight, Saturday afternoon race or just a casual sail around the harbor.

Currently, the Squadron offers several opportunities for Members to use the fleet of Elliott 7s. The opportunities available include:

Casual Bookings

The Elliott 7s are available for members to book throughout the week and on weekends subject to availability.

Tuesday Ladies Twilights

The Squadron's Elliott 7s are available for use by female sailors in the 2019 - 2020 Tuesday Ladies Twilight Series. The program is designed to expand the sailing opportunities available to our female members and expand the social side of racing at RSYS. 

The racing will include:

  • A combined division of Elliott 7s and Ynglings;
  • A relaxed setting where the emphasis is on participating and learning;
  • Up to five people per boat;
  • Prizes for the winner of each division at the conclusion of racing. 

Sailors with limited experience or those looking for assistance during the racing may also engage an instructor for the Twilight race.

After each Tuesday Ladies Twilight skippers and their crew are invited to enjoy a meal in the Careening Cove Anchorage with other competitors.

 

Intermediate Friday Twilights

The Intermediate committee has again secured exclusive use of the four Club Elliott 7s for the 2019-20 Friday Twilight series for their membersThe series is designed to introduce Intermediate members to the social side of racing at the Squadron on a fun and fast keelboat.

The racing will include:

  • A late single scratch starts for all four Elliotts to allow entrants as much time as possible to leave work on a Friday. 
  • Non-spinnaker racing to allow beginners and non-sailors to participate.
  • Up to five people per boat.
  • A bottle of wine for the scratch winner of each race. 

Sailors with limited experience or those looking for assistance during the racing may also engage an instructor for the Twilight race.

After each Intermediate Friday Elliott Twilight race members and their guests are invited to enjoy their evening at the Twilight Bar on the top deck.

Please note that whilst there is no booking fee associated with Intermediate Friday Twilights, a $50.00 fee will be charged for no-shows and you will be unable to hire an Elliott for the remaining twilights that season.

 
 

Saturday Mini B Regattas - Sportsboats Division

The Squadron's Mini B Regattas provide a great opportunity for members to refine their sailing abilities in a competitive environment. The Sportsboats division regularly draws a variety of sports boats such as J70's, VX Ones, and Vipers.

Squadron members are able to use the fleet of Elliott 7s for the Saturday Mini B Regattas. 

The Sportsboat Division racing will include:

  • Separate Sportsboat division start;
  • Up to three windward/leeward races each day;
  • SMS handicap results;
  • Prizes for the winner of each division at the conclusion of racing. 

 

Sunday Elliott Twilights

The Squadron's Elliott 7s are available for use by all members during the Sunday Twilight Races for the 2018-19 season. The boats will be subject to availability with any paid, private or youth programs taking priority.

The racing will include:

  • A single scratch starts for all four Elliotts at 4:45 pm to allow entrants as much time as possible to race, have dinner in the CCA and be home early on Sunday night.
  • Non-spinnaker racing to allow beginners and non-sailors to participate.
  • Up to five people per boat.
  • A bottle of wine for the scratch winner of each race.
