The Yngling Worlds are underway in the spectacular setting of Riva on Lake Garda in northern Italy.
There are 47 entries from 8 nations including two Australian boats also representing RSYS. On board AUS 59 are Karyn Gojnich, Sara Ladd and Ruth McCance, who have chartered a Dutch Yngling, made by the boat builder Mader that is very similar in setup to their own Australian boat.
The other Australian boat sailing under AUS 335 is a family affair with Alan Reese and his sons Michael and Jordan.
Also flying the Australian flag at the regatta is international and chief Yngling Measurer Peter Carter and his wife Lorraine. They are joined by Chris Harper, the current International Yngling Association (AIYA) Secretary, and his wife Jan, who has been supporting the AIYA communication and promotions for many years.
Lake Garda is a magnificent body of water that attracts sailors from all over the world year round. It also showcases sailing in its many forms including sail boarding, kit surfing, optimists, 29ers and this last week on the water we even crossed tacks with 18ft skiffs that were contesting their European Championship.
Racing gets underway today at 1pm with two races scheduled. The forecast for later in the week is looking unusually light so the race committee may exercise their option to sail a third race in the day. It is a 10 race series, including one drop when 5 or more races have been completed.
