10 June 2020 Twenty two boats and more than 120 sailors joined us for last Saturday’s Sailing reboot. The sun was out and there were smiles all around despite the general lack of wind on the Harbour. A shortened course was signaled for the pursuit race and the smaller limit boats started at 12 noon in approximately 5 knots from the north west.
Andrew Parkes from North Sails joined us on the water as a follow up to the Sail Trim Webinars. Tips for boats in the light conditions included; ease the main halyard, soften up the luff, double check the vang was not too tight and ensure there was no tension on the back stay.
Thanks to the crews that joined us including Agent 88, Alouette, Beowulf, Can Can, Coco HYC17, Euphoria, Gail Force, Genovefa, Gunga Din, Hell Razer, KIRSTEN III, Lively, Much Ado, Norske, Phoebe, Senta, Solange, Solveig II, Takana, Tom Thumb, Viva la Vita, Vivace and ZigZag2. Unfortunately the race was eventually officially abandoned when the breeze died completely. Most boats got close to Shark Island and based on times that were unofficially taken at the Shark Island first around was Agent 88 (Steve Ellis), followed by Beowulf (Stafford Watts) and then Norske (Robert Dickson). We look forward to contesting the Revonah Cup next year over the June long weekend in 2021.
Many thanks also to John Maclurcan and Rob Ridley for running the race for us.
