Imalizard slides into Hobart

'The last 30 miles was fantastic sailing' writes RSYS member Bruce Watson, 'but didn’t reflect what the other 600 was like!’

Imalizard competed in the 2 handed and PHS Divisions of the 2023 Sydney to Hobart Race. She was co-skippered with Frenchman Freddy Chanut.

Along with other competitors, Imalizard faced heavy seas and gale force winds not only in Bass Strait but along the Tasmanian coast. Nearly all the sailing was upwind. The decision was taken mid Bass Strait to move from racing to survival mode. Sailing the boat 2-up was difficult in these conditions, but eventually Constitution Dock beckoned along with a hot shower.

Despite the conditions, Imalizard had some success, taking out PHS 2 handed.

‘It was a good way to lose weight, in my case 4 kg in 5 days!'
