First Tracks wins Etchells NSW Championship

The Etchells NSW Championship was held from Friday to Sunday last weekend with 24 boats competing in challenging conditions.

Peter Merrington (skipper), Ian McKillop and William Parker on First tracks led from start to finish. A fantastic achievement.

Second was Mark Thornburrrow’s Racer CC, representing Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club with crew Julian Plante, Mike Huang and Malcolm Page.

Magpie came in third skippered by Graeme Taylor and crewed by Christopher Jackson and Ben Lamb.

A special mention to our young, next generation sailors Jack Abbott on Lisa Rose (9th place) and Xavier McLachlan on Lisa.

Jeanne Claude Strong skipper of Flying Higher writes, ‘Racing was fun, and we enjoyed the varying conditions - AP with no wind then light conditions on Friday. On Saturday the French have a saying "assez de vent pour decorner les vaches = there was enough wind to take off the cows' horns" and Sunday a shifty yet pretty consistent breeze.

Thanks for a great job, always in good humour, to Margaret in the sailing office and to Rob out on the water. It was great to see so many travellers from Gosford, RPAYC and our southern friends. We look forward to seeing them in Metung for the Nationals, then the Worlds at RBYC.

Congratulations to Billy and his team: our training partners, who seem to get better and better.’
