Dragons lead the way in Spring Series

Ted James writes, 'Another great day on the harbour, with a light yet pleasantly steady westerly breeze, an outgoing tide, and the usual flawless race management. In Division 3, Dragon Threenabit, ably helmed by Peter Crane, was first across the line.

On handicap, the Division 3 winner was Florin, a classic Dragon first sailed on the harbour in 1978, proving that the age of a hull need not be a limitation. At that time, the Dragon fleet at RSYS was reportedly 25 strong. Surely, there are other Dragons from that era which, with a bit of care, could return to the water?
Chris McLean did an excellent job with various repairs and skippered Florin for the race. Tom Scrutton, as forward hand, skillfully compensated for my own infirmities. Unfortunately, early in the race, the starboard genoa fine-tune gave way, forcing us to sail without it and limiting our tacking options.'
