2024 Harken International Youth Championship

From Monday 18th November to Friday 22nd of November, two teams from the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron competed and sought to defend the trophy at the Harken International Youth Championship, hosted by the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club.

Round robin one and two took place over the first three days of the regatta and saw strong performances from James Hayhoe’s crew of Sam Ezra, Jameson Prescott, Olivia Lee and James Hopkins only recording a single loss on the scorecard after the two rounds. Tom Rees’s team of Lauren Tandy, Raphael McLachlan, Michael King and Harriet McLachlan, also recorded several victories in the first round robin.

The semi-final and final series were held on Thursday and Friday for the top four ranked crews, after the round-robin series. Hayhoe’s crew went down 0-3 in the semi-final against Royal New Zealand Yacht Club’s Ethan Fong, placing them in the petite final against Hayden Smith, also from Royal New Zealand Yacht Club. Hayhoe’s crew placed 4th and Rees’s team placed 8th. Well done to all and thank you to the organisers, race officials and our coach, Zac West.
