Nigel Stoke, skipper of Fidelis writes, 'The CYCA held the Classic Yacht Regatta over the weekend of 9 and 10 December with Classic Yachts invited that had been launched pre 1976 and also had competed in a Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

The Regatta included two races with a pursuit start on Saturday and with a traditional scratch start on Sunday from a line set off Cannae Point to commemorate the origins of the race in 1946.

There were 3 Divisions and this year, an additional new Division for “IOR Era” yachts that had been built between 1976 and 1992 and which also had competed in a S2H. There were 31 yachts entered across all Divisions with an invitation race on Friday to welcome yachts to the Regatta, including several that had sailed in from interstate and up the coast.

The first point score race on Saturday was sailed in 40 degree heat with a light north easter providing close racing as the faster yachts caught up from the timed start. The second race on Sunday provided some contrasting conditions with a moderate southerly breeze with up to 15 knots to challenge some of the older classic rigs!

The regatta finished with a presentation at the CYCA clubhouse which included Classic trophies from earlier years, presented to each of the Divison winners. RSYS was well represented with a rousing cheer for Gordon Ingate, skipper of Jasnar on the podium joined by Philip Brown, Anitra V and Fidelis for each of their respective Divisions.

The next Classic race for these yachts will be the Great Veteran Yacht race held at the beginning of the CYCA winter series. These events encourage many owners of Classic Yachts that typically may not be entered in season Club racing but who make the effort, to get their safety compliance and are keen to be on the water. A fine sight for competitors and spectators alike.'
