History Lunch 'Beecroft's Caricatures'
Characters from the Club’s past, as told by John Maclurcan
John Maclurcan (writer, historian, collector and inter alia, the Club’s handicapper) will select six paintings by the artist L. Herbert Beecroft, currently on display in the Northern Entrance. In this talk he will examine:
A E Plant – an Englishman resident in Australia between 1923 and 1932, representing Leyland Motors.
Charles Lloyd Jones – member of the David Jones family and a force to be reckoned with in Sydney society for over 50 years
Alfred Milson – a senior member of the family after which Milson’s Point was named
A H Bray – a keen cricket enthusiast and a senior in the Masons
David Carment – a Naval Architect who became the Club Measurer in 1925
Ned Hungerford – the Club handicapper for many years and a thorn in the flesh of the Committees
The Paintings will be displayed on a large screen and John will:
● Analyse the features of the painting, unlocking the stories attached
● Tell you about the painter Beecroft

Behind each painting is a wealth of stories of the characters who made up the history of Sydney and the RSYS from 1870 to 1930.
